Famous for v3 ("What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee") and v8 (the tears-in-thy-bottle / book-of-life image — the first pre-NT explicit appearance of the cosmic-record idea later named in Mal 3:16 and Rev 20:12). Twin verses v4 ("I will not fear what flesh can do unto me") and v11 ("I will not be afraid what man can do unto me") form a near-identical refrain that Heb 13:6 quotes as the believer's confession.

IN THY PRESENCE — the same integer that locks Psa 55:14 and Psa 140:13 (the fellowship-restoration integer). And the closing clause "delivered my soul from death / my feet from falling" appears word-for-word at the same integers in Psa 116:8 — proving the two psalms are written as a pair, with Psa 116 quoting Psa 56 after the tears have been wiped. The chapter number itself (56) is PIERCE = STAKE = LIGHT — the last word of the psalm. Three artifacts at one verse:
The phrase BOTTLE + BOOK = 74 + 43 = 117 = PENTECOST = COMMUNION. The two storage-media combine at the Spirit-poured integer — the moment when the saints' tears (the bottle) become the saints' wine (the cup) and the saints' names (the book) are read aloud.
222 = "store the tears"; Psa 116:15 = "the death is precious." Same integer, two ends of the bottle.
Why this matters: in pre-temple Israel, there was no canonized "book of life" concept. The only places it appears earlier than Psa 56 are Exo 32:32–33 (Moses' "blot me out of thy book") and possibly Job 19:23-24 (engrave words in rock). Psa 56:8 is where the cosmic-record idea takes its mature form — bottle and book. The KJV gematria layer locks this verse at PENTECOST. The cosmic-record protocol IS the Spirit-poured protocol. The tears are not lost data — they are the input stream for the Pentecost cup.
Lock (v1–v2): The opening is built around the swallow-up boomerang (SWALLOW ME UP = 160 twice in v1+v2). The 160 integer = WINDY STORM (Psa 55:8) and CAST THY BURDEN (Psa 55:22) — Psa 56 opens at the exact integer Psa 55 closes at. Lock (v3): The most engineered verse in the psalm. The trust-pivot ladder runs through five KJVEL families in sequence:
Each morpheme added moves David further into the cluster-grid. By the time he says "I will trust," he has stepped through five integer-anchors. The phrase is a staircase — every additional word lands on a sealed integer. v5 MY WORDS = 117 — the enemy wrests what is at the Pentecost integer. v6 FOR MY SOUL = 144 — the enemy waits for what is at the OVERTHROW integer. The enemy is targeting precisely the things God is engineering. v5 enemy-attacks-the-Spirit-integer; v6 enemy-attacks-the-bride-integer. The threat catalog is integer-keyed to the kingdom.
Lock (v7): IN THINE ANGER = 124 (DR=7). This is the same integer as v13 WALK BEFORE GOD = 124 — God's verdict-anger and the saint's walk-before-Him are conserved. The verdict-direction matters: anger toward enemies = light toward the saint. Same integer, opposite vector — a v7↔v13 cross-verse handshake.

Lock (v10): Twin to v4 — integer-conserved by word-reorder. v4 "in God I will" → v10 "in God will I" — same six words, swap order, same integer 278. This is word-order-invariant lockup: David moves the verb but the integer stays. The KJV preserves the lock through the syntactic variation. v10b "in the LORD will I praise his word" = 334 — the YHWH variant shifts up by 56 (LORD - GOD with article) — the chapter number itself is the delta between GOD-praise and LORD-praise. Praising in YHWH instead of in Elohim is a 56-shift — the chapter integer = the deity-name distance.
Lock (v11): Twin to v4 — second integer-conserved word-reorder twin. v4 "I have put" → v11 "have I put" — same five words, swap, same integer 287. WHAT MAN CAN DO = 117 = PENTECOST = COMMUNION — the worst the man can do equals the best the Spirit can pour. The verse-sum (v11) = 652 — but the famous-clause-sum = 365 = EVERY DAY THEY WREST MY WORDS (v5). The yearly-day-count integer locks v5 (enemy's daily wresting) to v11 (saint's daily-no-fear). 365 days of wresting (v5) and 365 days of no-being-afraid (v11). One full year, two verbs, same integer.

Lock (v13): The chapter's signature is hidden in the last word — LIGHT = 56 = chapter number 56 = PIERCE = STAKE. The light in which David walks is the integer of the psalm itself. THE LIGHT OF THE LIVING = 216 = 6³ = I WILL RENDER PRAISES (v12) — the light in v13 is the praise in v12 by integer. The vow's render IS the light's walk. The Psa 116:8/9 pair-lock: DELIVERED MY SOUL FROM DEATH = 279 and MY FEET FROM FALLING = 187 appear verbatim in Psa 116:8. Psa 56:13 begs, "wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?" — Psa 116:8 answers, "For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling." The verbs swap future-petition (Psa 56) for past-fulfillment (Psa 116). The two psalms are a petition/answer pair across the Psalter. Psa 116:8 even adds the third clause Psa 56:13 didn't have: mine eyes from tears — closing the v8 bottle-loop. The tears went into the bottle in Psa 56:8; in Psa 116:8 they are wiped from the eyes. The bottle is empty because the eyes are dry.

The shortest verse in the psalm (10 words, 1 clause) and the most famous. The whole structure of Psa 56 is engineered around this verse: it sits between the opening cry (v1–v2) and the first refrain (v4), and is integer-conserved with the closing-verse light (v13) at multiple anchors.

The sealed cap (a KJVEL integer that does not appear as the sum of any KJV verse — see project_humming_174) is embedded inside the verse as a contiguous sub-phrase. The afraid-I-will is the cap. Lovingkindness IS the contents of "afraid I will." The verb-direction the saint chooses in the fear-moment is the chesed-frequency.
Lock 3-D — HEAD² consecration at "I will trust": WHAT TIME I AM AFRAID I WILL TRUST = 324 = 18² = HEAD².
