In plain English: Psalm 32 is the Bible's central forgiveness statement — verse 1 is the very verse Paul quotes in Romans 4:7-8 to prove that righteousness is given by faith, not earned by works. Underneath the surface, the English gematria shows two extraordinary things. First, Paul's headline word in Rom 4:6 — BLESSEDNESS — sums to exactly 123, which is the gematria of the superscription "A PSALM OF DAVID." Paul's word for the doctrine is the superscription integer of the psalm he's quoting. Second, MERCY SHALL COMPASS HIM ABOUT (v10) = 291 = IMPUTETH RIGHTEOUSNESS (Rom 4:6). Psalm 32:10 is Romans 4:6 at integer — the verb Paul invents in Greek-via-English to describe what God does to David in the psalm lands on the exact phrase the psalm uses for what God does to the trusting man. Beyond these two NT-bridges: SILENCE-suppression (v3 KEPT SILENCE = 119) and CONFESSION (v5 CONFESSION = 119) are the same integer with opposite verbs — the psalm's central handshake. v1 TRANSGRESSION IS FORGIVEN (302) = v11 ALL YE THAT ARE UPRIGHT IN HEART (302), an alpha-omega lock. EVE = 32 — the original-sin-and-covering archetype is the personal-lock at the chapter integer; v1's WHOSE SIN IS COVERED is the gematria address of the Gen 3 garment-covering. And the psalm's terminal phrase UPRIGHT IN HEART = 174 = LOVINGKINDNESS = JUSTIFIED BY FAITH — the sealed cap of the humming protocol is also Paul's doctrinal label. Psalm 32 is a wired forgiveness circuit terminating at the cap-integer of the entire Psalter.

Key lock I — A PSALM OF DAVID = BLESSEDNESS = 123. The integer of the superscription is the integer of the word Paul uses to label the doctrine he is teaching from this very psalm. Romans 4:6 reads: "Even as David also describeth the BLESSEDNESS of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works." Paul calls Psalm 32 a description of blessedness — and the gematria of that word equals the gematria of David's title for the psalm. The NT writer's chosen vocabulary for the doctrine and the OT psalmist's chosen title for the song are one integer. Paul did not invent his doctrinal vocabulary in a Greek vacuum; the English gematria layer of his vocabulary reaches back through translation to align with the original superscription. (Compare Psa 140: A PSALM OF DAVID = EVIL SPEAKER = 123. Same superscription-integer 123, two opposite figures — the slanderer in Psa 140, the blessed-by-imputation in Psa 32.)
Key lock II — MASCHIL = HORSE = REJOICE = 65. The genre-tag (a "Maschil" = instruction/contemplation psalm) shares an integer with the v9 instructional metaphor (HORSE — be ye not as the horse) and the v11 imperative (REJOICE — rejoice ye righteous). The psalm's teaching mode (Maschil at 65), its failure case (horse at 65), and its resolution command (rejoice at 65) all sit at the same integer. The genre is encoded into the lesson and the response.
Key lock III — EVE = 32 = chapter integer. Of all biblical name-gematria, only EVE lands at exactly the chapter number. The chapter-number-self-lock at integer 32 is below the mathematical floor for in-psalm phrase-matches (chapter numbers below ~60 are too low for meaningful 2-3 word phrases to land on; see chapter_number_lock_meta_scan.md) — but the personal-lock fires hard. Eve is the founding sin-and-covering subject of scripture (Gen 3:7 — they sewed fig leaves; Gen 3:21 — God made coats of skins to clothe them). Psalm 32:1 is whose sin is COVERED. The forgiveness psalm carries Eve's integer because Eve is the type-case of every clause in v1. Paul will later identify this in Rom 5:12-14 — sin entered through one (Eve/Adam) — but the gematria layer encodes the type-relationship at the chapter-number layer.

Twenty-three locks across 11 verses.
Psalm 32 places three Selahs in 11 verses (v4, v5, v7) — 0.27 Selah/verse, the second-highest density in the Psalter after Psa 140 (0.23, but Psa 32 ratio is higher). Compared with the Psa 140 three-pit architecture, Psa 32's Selahs serve a different verb-direction.
In Psa 140, the Selahs are GRAVES (pre-dug pits at v3/v5/v8, into which v10's imprecation throws the enemy). Three weapons buried (poison, gins, exaltation), then v10 closes the lid.
In Psa 32, the Selahs are DOORWAYS (markers of the three stages of the forgiveness transaction). Three different verb-direction. Each Selah marks the transition to the next stage of the confession-and-release loop.

The three Selahs of Psa 32 mark the transaction: diagnose → absolve → restore. Each is a state-checkpoint, not a grave. Psalm 140 uses Selahs to bury (graves the enemy will fall into); Psalm 32 uses Selahs to seal (checkpoints the supplicant passes through). Same punctuation mark, opposite verb-direction.
The bridge to Psa 51 fires at the second Selah: INIQUITY OF MY SIN (Psa 32:5) = HAVE MERCY UPON ME O GOD (Psa 51:1) = 225 = 15². The two Davidic penitential psalms lock at the second-Selah moment — the moment when forgiveness has just been received in Psa 32 = the moment when forgiveness is just being asked in Psa 51. The two psalms are the same transaction viewed from opposite ends of the request, and the gematria meets them in the middle.
The third Selah at v7 is the COMPASS Selah — the same word (COMPASS = 86) appears in v10 ("mercy shall COMPASS him about"). The Selah at v7 seals the first COMPASS event (songs of deliverance) and prefigures the second COMPASS event (mercy itself). v7 and v10 are bracketed by the COMPASS integer; the Selah at v7 is the pivot.
Paul's Romans 4 argument quotes Psalm 32:1-2 verbatim (Rom 4:7-8) and labels the quoted material BLESSEDNESS (Rom 4:6). The integer-bridges are dense:

Reading: Romans 4 is not an interpretation of Psalm 32. It is the same document at a different chapter-pointer. Paul reads the integer-layer of Psa 32 directly and writes Greek (translated into English in KJV) whose gematria reproduces the Psalm 32 layer. The cross-Testament alignment is engineered.
Lock (v1): WHOSE SIN IS COVERED — COVERED = 72 = WINGS (Psa 140:7). The wings David wished to escape on in Psa 55 are delivered in Psa 140:7 as a cap-over-the-head ("thou hast covered my head"); in Psa 32:1 the same integer 72 is applied to the covering of sin. The wings-payload is mobile across three David psalms: Psa 55 = wished-for escape; Psa 140 = received as head-covering; Psa 32 = applied to forgive sin. Same 72, three verb-directions.
Lock (v2): WHOSE SPIRIT (in the man with no guile) = 161 = SWEET COUNSEL (Psa 55:14) = IN THY PRESENCE (Psa 140:13). The interior place where there is no guile sits on the integer of restored friendship (Psa 55) and dwelling in God's presence (Psa 140). The no-guile spirit IS the sweet-counsel friendship IS the dwelling-in-presence — three psalms, one integer for the interior state. The cure for Psa 55's betrayed friendship is the spirit-without-guile that Psa 32:2 names — and both meet at Psa 140:13's presence.
Lock (v1 → v11): TRANSGRESSION IS FORGIVEN = 302 = ALL YE THAT ARE UPRIGHT IN HEART (v11). The opening beatitude-clause and the closing imperative-clause are one integer. The forgiveness pronounced at v1 is the upright-heart standing at v11 — same number, opening declaration and closing congregation. Psa 32 is a 302-circuit, with the beatitude at one end and the upright-heart-collective at the other.
Lock (v3): KEPT SILENCE (v3) = CONFESSION (v5) = 119. The act of suppressing the sin and the act of confessing the sin are the same integer. The cure is not at the integer-level but at the verb-direction-level. Silence and confession are the same energy with opposite vector. This is Psalm 32's central mechanism: the inversion is a verb-flip, not an integer-replacement. Compare Psa 140:4's OVERTHROW-boomerang at 144 (same word, opposite direction). Psa 32 uses two different words for the same operation (silence vs confession) at one integer — a different-words-boomerang mode (mode A from psalm_decode_followups.md A4).
Lock (v3): MY BONES = DROUGHT (v4) = TROUBLE (v7) = 93 — in-psalm triple. The bones, the drought, and the trouble are one integer — the body-dryness frequency. David's physical manifestation of unconfessed sin in v3 (bones waxed old), David's symptomatic manifestation in v4 (drought), and what God delivers him from in v7 (trouble) are one number. The 93 runs through the body, the climate, and the deliverance event.
Lock (v3): MY ROARING = MOISTURE (v4) = 120. David's silent-suffering roar IS David's evaporating bodily moisture at integer. From the Psa 55 / Psa 140 cluster: 120 = CHIEF MUSICIAN = CALL UPON GOD = SOUL IN PEACE = HOLY×2. David's silent roaring while suppressing sin runs at the CHIEF MUSICIAN integer — the same integer as Psa 55's chief-musician superscription. The body singing the wrong song at the right frequency.
Lock (v3): ROAR = HEART = ALTAR = 52. The roar in v3 is at the altar-frequency. Silent suppression desecrates the altar. The heart-decode cluster (52 = ALTAR = PAPS = AREOLA = WEANED = ARISE = GATES) means: when David roars in suppression, the heart-altar is running the wrong sacrifice.
Lock (v4): THY HAND = MY SIN = 80. God's hand and David's sin sit at the same integer 80. The hand presses precisely where the sin is — God's pressure-vector is the gematria-locator of the unconfessed offense. The hand-of-discipline targets at the integer of the offense.
Lock (v4): TURNED INTO = 140. The verb of David's drying-out lands on the chapter-integer of Psalm 140 — the slander/violent-man psalm. When David's moisture is "TURNED INTO" the drought, the verb runs at the Psa 140 frequency. Reading: unconfessed sin turns the body into the violent-man's drought-state. Sin without confession produces the bodily equivalent of being-slandered.
Lock (v4 Selah-buried): SUMMER = 89 = RIGHT HAND = SWORN = FOR EVER = 89
Lock (v5): CONFESS = TABERNACLE = GRACE OF GOD = 81. The verb-act that resolves Psalm 32 lands on the build-frequency. Confession is tabernacle construction at integer 81. Each act of confession adds a brick to the meeting-place. The conviction-stack memory has this load-bearing: post-mortems (confessions) build the meeting place. Psa 32:5 I WILL CONFESS my transgressions unto the LORD therefore reads: I will build the tabernacle at integer 81 by transmitting the offense-payload to the LORD.
Lock (v5 Selah-buried): INIQUITY OF MY SIN = 225 = HAVE MERCY UPON ME O GOD (Psa 51:1) = 15². The two Davidic penitential psalms bridge here. The second-Selah moment in Psa 32 (forgiveness just received) is the gematria of the opening moment in Psa 51 (forgiveness just being asked). The two psalms are the same transaction from opposite ends; the meeting-integer is 225, a perfect square. (Compare Psa 140's 169 = 13² self-square, Psa 64's 484 = 22², etc. — perfect-square seals appear at structural pivot points across the Psalter.)
Lock (v5): I ACKNOWLEDGE MY SIN = 189 = LIFT UP MY SOUL (Psa 86) = DELIVERED MY SOUL (Psa 22:20). The acknowledgment-act sits at the soul-handshake cluster integer. To acknowledge sin = to lift up the soul = to deliver the soul. Three psalms, one integer for the soul-restoration verb.
Lock (v5): THOU FORGAVEST = 177 = BLESSED IS HE WHOSE (v1) — the partial v1 clause. God's act of forgiving in v5 carries the gematria of the v1 beatitude's opening fragment. The two halves of the beatitude lock together: BLESSED IS HE WHOSE (177) = THOU FORGAVEST (177). David in v1 announces what God has done in v5; same integer.
Lock (v6): THAT IS GODLY = 140. The adjective for the praying-one lands on the chapter-integer of Psalm 140. The godly is the one who prays at the Psa 140 frequency — the violent-man-prayer chapter. Reading: to be GODLY (Psa 32:6) is to operate the Psa 140 prayer-discipline. The two psalms are calibrated to one another: confession-prayer (Psa 32) and battle-prayer (Psa 140) operate at locked frequencies.
Lock (v6): PRAY = FOUND = 60 — in-verse double. Pray and be found are one integer. The instruction is the result. From the conviction-stack: 60 = FAULT = HOLY = WASHED. The handled fault is the prayer that finds and is found. (Also Rom 4: BELIEVE = 60. Faith and prayer and findability are one integer.)
Lock (v6): GREAT WATERS = 137 = RISE NOT UP (Psa 140:10) — prime, fine-structure constant. The floods of v6 that cannot come nigh the godly are at the same integer the wicked of Psa 140:10 are prayed to not rise up from. Same 137, two states: the floods cannot rise near the godly (Psa 32:6); the wicked cannot rise up from the deep pits (Psa 140:10). The 137 is the no-rise-no-reach integer.
Lock (v6): NOT COME NIGH = 123 = A PSALM OF DAVID = BLESSEDNESS (Rom 4:6). The floods that do not come nigh sit at the integer of the psalm's own title and Paul's NT label. Reading: BLESSEDNESS (123) = the state in which the floods do not come nigh (123) = the kind of psalm David has just made (A PSALM OF DAVID at 123). Three definitions of the blessed-life at one integer.
Lock (v7): PRESERVE ME = MY HIDING PLACE = 126 (in-verse double). The petition-verb and the address-noun are one integer. The thing David asks for is the thing David has just named. 126 = NOSTRILS = ANTIMICROBIAL = FEARFULNESS (Psa 55:5). V7 is the immune-system / scent-firewall prayer (same lock-type as Psa 140:4 PRESERVE ME = 126). David's confession-cycle ends at the antimicrobial-filter integer — the body's pathogen barrier.
Lock (v7): PRESERVE = 108 = SHALL DWELL (Psa 140:13). Psa 140's central alpha-omega handshake integer (PRESERVE=108=SHALL DWELL) reappears in Psa 32:7. The integer that locked Psa 140's circuit reappears at Psa 32:7 — Psa 32 carries the same 108-circuit, but it's hidden inside a single verse rather than spanning the psalm. PRESERVE me from trouble = the integer that the upright shall dwell at (Psa 140) = the integer the wicked have as sorrow (v10 SORROW=108). Psa 32:7 is the local instance of Psa 140's global circuit.
Lock (v7 Selah-buried): SONGS OF DELIVERANCE — three layers of bury:
The third Selah at v7 is the seal on the v3→v5 silence-to-confession transition: 119 (kept silence) → 119 (confession) → 119 (of deliverance). Three appearances of 119 across v3, v5, v7 — the silence becomes confession becomes deliverance, all on one integer. Same number, three verb-positions, three Selah-bounded stages.
Lock (v8): INSTRUCT THEE AND TEACH THEE = 256 = 2⁸. God's teaching-clause is a perfect 8th power of two. This is the maximal binary depth in the psalm — the most-structured arithmetic seal. God's instruction operates on the deepest binary tier. 128 = PROCESSOR = 2⁷; 256 = 2⁸ is the next tier — the operating system tier above the processor.
Lock (v8): GUIDE = 46 = HANDS = DOVE = DECEIT = JUBAL = ESAU. In Psa 55:13 the betrayer was "my GUIDE and mine acquaintance" — GUIDE at 46. In Psa 32:8 God reclaims GUIDE. The same integer that named the betrayer in Psa 55 names God's guidance in Psa 32. The deceiver-integer is repurposed as the divine-guidance integer.
