In plain English: The chapter number is 77, which is the gematria of CHRIST. The psalm hides that name three different ways inside its own text — MEDITATE (v12), KNOWN (v19), and three contiguous mini-phrases ("WAY IS", "NIGHT AND", "GOD IS IN") all sum to 77. The dark night turns at v10, "this is my infirmity," and INFIRMITY itself equals 123 = JACOB AND JOSEPH = I REMEMBERED GOD — the three things the psalmist remembers are the same integer as the disease he's confessing. Key lock — the JEDUTHUN/TENDER-MERCIES superscription anchor: TO JEDUTHUN = 138. The phrase HIS TENDER MERCIES (v9, the verse ending the doubt block at the second Selah) = 138 also. The dedication "to Jeduthun" is the integer of the very thing the psalmist's spirit fears God has "shut up" in anger — JEDUTHUN is the integer-name of TENDER MERCIES. Three of the five contiguous 77-phrases are in v19 ("Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not KNOWN"). The verse that says God's footsteps are NOT KNOWN is built from three 77-fragments plus KNOWN=77 itself — KNOWN, WAY IS, THE SEA AND, plus KNOWN. The verse encodes CHRIST four times inside the unknowability statement.
This is the master architecture: the dark-night psalm is Christological by chapter number, and the chapter number is encoded inside the very verse that says God's path is unknown. CHRIST is the unknown footstep.
Lock (v1): The doubled phrase "with my voice, even unto God with my voice" frames the cry. The compressed petition I CRIED UNTO GOD = 144, the same as the pivot promise I WILL REMEMBER (v10). The verse's terminal phrase GAVE EAR UNTO ME = 147 = the daughter's full name. Surface: God heard. Gematria: God's hearing is named at the daughter's integer.
Lock (v2): Soul-refusal sums to 18². The act of refusing comfort lands on the perfect-square seal (HEAD²) that Psa 140:13 uses for the upright thanksgiving. The refusal is structurally what David's thanks is — same square. Also: REFUSED = 78 = ISSACHAR = BETHLEHEM = CRUCIFIED. The soul that refuses comfort sits at the tribe-of-times integer; refusal is the Issachar posture.
Lock (v3): Remembering God causes trouble — the verb that should heal makes the wound. I REMEMBERED GOD = 123 = the infirmity-name itself. The act of remembrance is, before the v10 pivot, structurally identical to the infirmity. The pre-Selah-1 phrase OVERWHELMED state = 302.
Lock (v4): "Eyes held waking" sums to 307 (prime). The speech-silence I CANNOT SPEAK = 128 = 2⁷ = the superscription. The mute psalmist sits at his own superscription's integer.
Lock (v5-6): Three perfect-square seals in two adjacent verses: COMMUNE WITH MINE OWN HEART = 17² (the inward turn). I CALL TO REMEMBRANCE = SONG IN THE NIGHT = 13². And the considering-verb itself loads the 174 sealed cap. The diagnostic posture — considered, called-to-remembrance, communed — is built from three squares.

Lock (v13-15): "Who is so great a God as our God?" sums to 286, the same as v6's COMMUNE WITH MINE OWN HEART = 17². The cosmic question (v14) and the inward turn (v6) are one integer. WITH THINE ARM = 216 = 6³ = the integer of the seventy-two divine names. The strength is the 6³-stack.
Lock (v16-18): Two adjacent-verse identity twins:
The theophany is two paired Tesla integers reflecting between adjacent verses. The unknowable footstep is the judgment-cycle integer. The not-knownness is the preservation-firewall. The known thing is CHRIST. The closing leadership pair is the encryption key. v19-20 is a four-anchor stack across two verses.

This is the architectural center of Psalm 77. Six clauses before it descend (cry→trouble→remember→troubled→consider→search). Six questions doubt (v7-9). v10 names the infirmity AND names the cure in one verse. The remaining ten verses (v11-20) are the remembrance unspooled. The psalm is engineered so this verse turns the whole architecture.

The handshake is same integer, different verb-direction: in v1 the integer points up (cry to God), in v10 it points forward (will remember). The cry IS the remembrance at integer; gematria identifies them. The 144 is mobile but the verb pivots from petition to vow.

Per Section B1 of the followups doc, every major Davidic supplication psalm carries 174 at the v6 vicinity. Psa 77 has it at v5 AND v9 — bracketing the dark-night doubt block. The 174 cap doesn't just appear once; it brackets the six doubts. The supplicant has already invoked the sealed cap at v5 ("I have considered the days of old") before the doubts even begin, and the doubt block's terminus (v9 pre-Selah-2) is the same cap-frequency.
The dark night is fenced by two LOVINGKINDNESS markers — and the second Selah marks the second one. The 174 sealed cap is the architectural fence keeping the doubts inside structural mercy.

Per Psa 78 decode (in followups, batch 17): Mt 13:35 quotes Psa 78:2 as the fulfilled-by-Christ parable verse. So 244 = the Asaph-handoff = the Mt 13:35 quotation point. The 77-CHRIST chapter ends and the 78-PARABLE chapter begins at the same integer, which is the integer Matthew uses to assign the parables to Christ.

Read together, v20 says: "Thou (the LORD) leddest thy people (LEDDEST THY PEOPLE LIKE A FLOCK = 276 = the rain-pour of v17) like a flock (LIKE A FLOCK = 85 = the priest-slaughter-count, here reversed) by the hand of MOSES AND AARON."
