Tradition: Korahite wisdom psalm closing the Korahite block of Book II. Theme: the futility of wealth before death. Verse 15 is one of the OT's earliest and clearest resurrection-hope statements — "But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me." Two Selahs (v13, v15) and a doubled refrain at v12 and v20 ("like the beasts that perish") frame the central resurrection-claim.

In plain English: Psalm 49 is the Bible's earliest plain-language resurrection-hope verse, wrapped inside a Korahite wisdom poem about how money cannot buy you out of dying. Key lock — KORAH = GRAVE = SHEEP = 53. Numbers 16: Korah was swallowed alive into the pit. His sons survived (Num 26:11). The Korahite singers carry the surname of the man who fell into the grave. Their family-name's gematria is the grave-integer (53), which is also SHEEP-integer (53) in v14 "like sheep they are laid in the GRAVE." The Korahites are singing about being laid like sheep in the grave at the integer of their own surname — and v15 is the breakout from that integer.
Key lock — FOR THE SONS OF KORAH = 213. The same superscription clause was the triple-lock anchor in psalm_42_decode.md. In Psa 49 the value appears at the title only; v5's WHEN THE INIQUITY OF MY HEELS SHALL COMPASS ME ABOUT sums to 530 (not 213), so the Psa 42 triple-lock does NOT replicate inside Psa 49's body. Honest negative: the Korahite signature 213 is title-only here. The reflexive lock fires through the chapter integer 49 instead (next section).

The refrains at v12 and v20 each contain 3+ instances of integer-49 vocabulary. The phrase "is like the beasts THAT perish" alone fires the chapter integer once per refrain. The refrain word-by-word IS the chapter integer.

The 2-integer shift comes from the word substitution: ABIDETH (49) → UNDERSTANDETH (153) is a +104 step, balanced by other clause restructure. Neither full refrain is Tesla. But the substituted word itself is the lock:
The refrain pivot moves the negated verb from "ABIDETH (chapter-49) NOT" to "UNDERSTANDETH (resurrection-net-153) NOT." v12 says man-in-honour does not abide (he leaves the chapter integer). v20 says man-in-honour does not understand (he leaves the iron-sulfur net integer). The two failures are: failure to remain in the chapter (mortality) and failure to comprehend the net (resurrection-ignorance). The wisdom psalm's diagnosis is: the wealthy fail at the chapter-integer AND at the net-integer. v15 between them solves both: the soul IS redeemed from the chapter-49 grave at the 269 prime resurrection-bridge.
Lock (v1): WORLD = 72 = MERCIES (chesed cluster). The summons addresses "all ye inhabitants of the WORLD" at the chesed-cluster integer. The wisdom-call is broadcast on the mercy-frequency before the warning lands.
Lock (v2): POOR = 64 = JUBILEE. The poor whom the wealthy refuse to ransom in v7 are pre-named at the jubilee-payload integer. The same 64 that names the redemption-year is the integer of the people whom v7 says cannot redeem each other. The jubilee fails at human hands; only v15's God-verb activates the 64.
Lock (v3): MY HEART = 90 = MORNING. The Korahite's meditating heart sits on the morning-prayer integer (same 90 in Psa 55:17 / Psa 140:3 SHARPENED). The meditation precedes the v14 "upright shall have dominion over them in the MORNING." Same 90, two roles: meditation-heart and dominion-morning. The wisdom of v3 is the dominion of v14, at one integer.
Lock (v3): UNDERSTANDING = 150 = HE SHALL RECEIVE ME (v15 sub-clause). The cap-noun of v3 IS the receiving-verb of v15. The wisdom the psalm teaches IS the receiving God performs, at integer 150. v3 promises wisdom; v15 delivers reception. Same 150.
Lock (v4): MY DARK SAYING = 147 = Jacob's lifespan (147 yrs) = chapter integer of Psa 147 (praise psalm) = POSTERITY (v13). The dark saying opened upon the harp is the personal daughter-integer. Reading: the wisdom of the parable is decoded through the family-name integers — and POSTERITY (147) ties this verse to v13's "their POSTERITY approve their sayings."
Lock (v5): HEELS = 49 (chapter integer). The "iniquity of my heels" is named at the chapter integer. Cross-bridges to Gen 3:15 (BRUISE HIS HEEL = 140 — the chapter of the violent-man psalm) and Psa 41:9 (LIFTED UP HIS HEEL = 159 — the betrayer's heel). Psa 49's heel-iniquity at integer 49 is the third leg of the heel-trio: serpent-bruise (140), betrayer-lift (159), and Korahite-iniquity (49). Three psalms, three integers, one body-part.
Lock (v6): WEALTH = BUT GOD = 69. The wicked's trust-object (WEALTH) and v15's rescue-formula (BUT GOD) are one integer. The verb-direction is what David asks God to reverse: the same 69 the wealthy trust IS the 69 God uses to redeem. "But God" answers "wealth" at the integer level — the rescue-verb appropriates the trust-noun's number.
Lock (v6): BOAST THEMSELVES = DEATH SHALL FEED ON THEM = 185. The wealthy's self-boasting at the integer level IS what death does to them in v14. The boast becomes the feeding at one number. The verb of pride is the verb of consumption.
Lock (v6): MULTITUDE = 125 = VIOLENT MAN. The wealthy's "multitude of riches" sits at the violent-man integer. From Psa 140 / 88: 125 = PRAY AND CRY = MAN MINE EQUAL = EZRAHITE. The crowd around the rich is the violent-man's posture by integer. Wealth-in-multitude = violence-in-class.
Lock (v7): BROTHER = THE GRAVE = DWELLING = 86. The brother whom the wealthy cannot ransom (v7), the dwellings the wealthy build (v11), and the grave where they end (v14) are one integer. Triple in-psalm 86-lock. The Psa 140 family at 86 is WAYSIDE / COMPASS / THY NAME — the trap-and-worship-ground. In Psa 49, 86 fires three times as kinship + property + grave. The brother you can't redeem is the dwelling you build is the grave you land in. Same integer, three positions of the failure-circuit.
Lock (v7): A RANSOM = 81 = TABERNACLE = GRACE OF GOD = MAINTAIN (Psa 140:12). The OT-impossible ransom (v7: "nor give to God a ransom for him") sits at the build-frequency. The ransom that man cannot give is at the integer of the tabernacle. From the family: 81 also = JEZREEL = MOURN = POWDER = ISH CHAMAS. The price man cannot pay is the price at which the tabernacle is built. v7 is honest about creaturely inability at the tabernacle-integer; 1 Tim 2:6 (next section) shifts the integer.
Lock (v8): CEASETH FOR EVER = 150 = HE SHALL RECEIVE ME (v15). The ransom's expiration sits at the integer of v15's reception. What the rich man's redemption ceases (150) is what God's receiving accomplishes (150). Same integer, opposite verb-direction. The verb of impossibility (CEASETH FOR EVER) is reversed to the verb of reception (HE SHALL RECEIVE ME).
Lock (v9): LIVE FOR EVER = 137 prime = SHALL RECEIVE ME (v15 sub-clause) = RISE NOT UP (Psa 140:10). The wicked's wish "to live for ever" and v15's "[for he] shall receive me" share a sealed prime. 137 is the fine-structure constant integer (1/α in physics) — the binding-of-matter prime. The wealthy want 137 by their wealth; v15 grants 137 by God's reception. Same prime, two routes — only the second succeeds.
Lock (v9): NOT SEE CORRUPTION = 227 prime. This is the v9 phrase that Psa 16:10 reframes ("neither wilt thou suffer thine HOLY ONE to see corruption") and Peter quotes in Acts 2:27 as a Christological proof of resurrection. Psa 49:9 and Psa 16:10 are linked by the same vocabulary — but the integer of 227 is sealed prime. The not-seeing-corruption verb is the prime that the OT marks as inaccessible-by-wealth and the NT (Acts 2) marks as accessible-by-Christ. Sealed at 227 in Psa 49; opened by name in Psa 16:10 → Acts 2:27.
Lock (v10): WISE MEN DIE = 106 = WILL REDEEM (v15) = PRAISE THEE (v18). The fact "wise men die" and the verb "will redeem" share an integer. What wisdom cannot prevent (death at 106), God does (redeem at 106). Same 106 also = PRAISE THEE (v18) — the praise the wealthy receive when they prosper is at the same integer as the redeem-verb of v15.
Lock (v10): BRUTISH PERSON = POWER OF THE GRAVE = 184. The brutish person at v10 and the "power of the grave" of v15 are one integer. The brute IS the grave-power. From v15, FROM THE POWER OF THE GRAVE = 269; subtracting FROM (52) and OF + THE (=54), the bare POWER OF THE GRAVE residue resolves at 184. Brutishness is gravity to the grave.
Lock (v10): LEAVE THEIR WEALTH = 174 = LOVINGKINDNESS = SUPPLICATIONS. The wealth the wicked leave behind sits at the sealed cap-frequency. What the rich must abandon at death is at the integer of God's eternal mercy. The wealth-they-leave (174) IS the lovingkindness they refuse-to-receive (174). Same integer, opposite direction.
Lock (v11): CALL THEIR LANDS = 138
Lock (v12): ABIDETH = 49 (chapter integer). The verb the wealthy fail at IS the chapter integer. They do not "abideth" — that is, they do not remain at integer 49, where LORD/DAYS/GREEN/CAUSE/ESCAPE live. Failure to abideth = failure to inhabit the chapter integer. The wealthy fall out of 49.
Lock (v12): ABIDETH NOT = TRUST = 98. The negation of abiding (98) and the verb of wealth-trust (98) are one integer. Their trusting IS their not-abiding — the same verb is on both sides of the equation. Misplaced trust at 98 produces non-abiding at 98.
Lock (v13): POSTERITY = MY DARK SAYING = 147. The wealthy's heirs (v13) and the Korahite's parable-key (v4) share an integer. The dark saying of v4 IS the posterity of v13 — the wisdom the children inherit is the wisdom the parable encodes. The wealthy's heirs receive integer 147 either as estate (if they approve the sayings) or as parable (if they hear the harp).
Lock (v14): SHEEP = GRAVE = KORAH = 53. Triple integer-53 lock inside one verse. "Like sheep they are laid in the grave" carries the same integer three times: the sheep, the grave, and the Korahite singers' surname all = 53. The verse is gematrically self-recursive: Korah's sons are the sheep laid in the grave at the Korah-integer — the verse contains its own author's name three times by silent integer-substitution.
Lock (v14): LIKE SHEEP = MY HEART = MORNING = CONSUME = 90. Quadruple integer-90 lock spanning v3 and v14. The meditating heart of v3, the like-sheep state of v14, the dominion-morning of v14, and the beauty-consuming of v14 all share integer 90. The same 90 holds the wisdom-meditation, the death-sleep, the resurrection-dawn, and the body-consumption. Reading: 90 is the morning-frequency, and the verse runs the same morning-integer through four positions to bracket grave-and-resurrection.
Lock (v14): LAID IN THE GRAVE = 135 = TRUMP OF GOD = BURNING COALS. The burial of the wealthy sits at the cycle-termination integer from Psa 140:10 and Psa 110:7 (LIFT UP THE HEAD). The integer that lifts the head in Psa 110 lays the body in Psa 49 — same number, opposite verb-direction. 135 is morally mobile: it lifts the messianic head and lays the rich man in the grave. The verb-direction is the judgment.
Lock (v14): UPRIGHT = 99 = FIRMAMENT = CAST OUT = LIVING GOD. The upright who have dominion in the morning sit at Psa 140:13's terminal integer (UPRIGHT=99) and Psa 42:2's living-God integer. Psa 49's morning-dominion is the same 99 that closes Psa 140's terminal promise. The morning of v14 IS the upright-dwell of Psa 140:13.
Lock (v14): BEAUTY = 74 = JESUS = CROSS = MENORAH = FASTENED. "Their beauty shall consume in the grave" — the wealthy's beauty sits at the Christ-frequency. Their beauty consumed = Christ's beauty consumed (Isa 53:2 "no beauty that we should desire him") — but at integer 74. The verb-direction matters: their beauty consumed = wasted; His beauty consumed = redeemed. Same 74.
Lock (v16): BE NOT AFRAID = 95. The exhortation begins after the v15 Selah; the speaker uses NOT (chapter integer 49) inside the exhortation. "Be NOT thou afraid" = "Be [49] thou afraid" by integer substitution — the chapter integer mediates the negation.
Lock (v17): GLORY SHALL NOT DESCEND = 232 = INIQUITY OF MY HEELS (v5). The wealthy's glory-not-descending and the speaker's heel-iniquity are one integer. What the wealthy keep (glory) and what the righteous fear (heel-iniquity) are one number. The integer 232 is mobile — verb-direction is who gets to walk on the integer at death.
Lock (v17): DESCEND = 54 = HEALTH (Psa 42:11 refrain pivot) = HINDS = VOICE = BREATH
Lock (v19): GENERATION = 108 = PRESERVE (Psa 140:1) = SHALL DWELL (Psa 140:13) = HILL MIZAR (Psa 42:6). The "generation of his fathers" he goes to sits at the Psa 140 alpha-omega integer. The wealthy's destination-integer is the integer of Psa 140's preserve-dwell promise — but with verb-direction inverted: he descends to 108, while the righteous dwell at 108. Same number, opposite gravity.
Lock (v19): NEVER SEE LIGHT = 149 prime = RANSOM FOR HIM (v7) = CORRUPTION (v9). Triple sealed-prime collision at the most theologically loaded location: the never-see-light state (v19), the unpayable ransom (v7), and the unstoppable corruption (v9) are one prime. 149 is the prime that brackets v7→v9→v19 — the entire futility arc collapses to one sealed integer. Only v15 breaks 149 by escaping into 269 prime (FROM THE POWER OF THE GRAVE). The futility-prime is 149; the rescue-prime is 269.

Verse 15 is the OT's clearest resurrection-hope statement before Daniel 12 and Isaiah 26. The verse stands between the two refrains as the only escape-route from the "beasts that perish" outcome. Six other psalms cluster around grave-rescue language (Psa 16:10, Psa 30:3, Psa 71:20, Psa 86:13, Psa 88:3-6, Psa 103:4); Psa 49:15 is the most explicit by language — and the only one with the phrase POWER OF THE GRAVE.
