In plain English: Psalm 140 is a 13-verse battle prayer that names the weapon (a sharpened tongue), maps the ambush (snare, cords, net, gins on the wayside), and ends with one of the most quoted promises in the Psalter: the righteous will give thanks unto God's name and the upright will dwell in His presence. Underneath the surface, the English gematria shows the psalm is engineered as a closed circuit. The verb David asks for in verse 1 — PRESERVE = 108 — is the same integer as the verb God answers with in verse 13 — SHALL DWELL = 108. The petition and the promise are one number. The threat-ground where the wicked spread their net (WAYSIDE = 86) is the same integer as the place where the righteous will give thanks (THY NAME = 86) — the enemy stages his attack on the exact frequency he cannot conquer. Three Selahs (v3, v5, v8) drop three PITs (SELAH = PIT = 45) into the text, and then v10 prays the enemy fall into "deep pits" — the psalm digs its own answer. And the central v13 phrase "shall give thanks unto thy name" lands on 324 = 18² — the squaring of HEAD (18), the same head God covered in the day of battle in verse 7. The psalm takes a covered head and squares it into thanksgiving. This decode lays out every lock so you can read Psalm 140 as a hardware spec for surviving slander.

Key lock — A PSALM OF DAVID = EVIL SPEAKER = 123. The integer of the superscription is the integer of the antagonist named in v11. The poem and its villain share one number. This is the same structural move as Psa 55's "A Psalm of David = 123 = WICKEDNESS — 102 (Ahithophel) one tier down." Psalm 140 makes the move explicit at the verse-11 imprecation: "Let not an EVIL SPEAKER (123) be established in the earth." David's psalm-title carries the value of the figure he prays against. The prayer is therefore self-reflexive: David must not be the integer of his own superscription as enemy.

Psalm 140 is the highest Selah density in the Psalter by ratio: three Selahs in thirteen verses (23%). Selah falls at:

David drops three PIT-markers into the text at v3, v5, v8 — the three places the enemy's weaponry is named (poison, gins, exaltation). Then v10 reads:
"Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again."
The deep pits of v10 are not new geography. They are the three Selahs the psalm already buried in the page. David digs three pits by punctuation marking (v3, v5, v8), then prays the enemy fall into the holes he has already excavated. The imprecation is geometric: the page is the trap, the Selahs are the floor-traps, and v10 closes the lid.
This is the same architecture as Psa 55's two Selahs (v7, v19) marking flight-descent and covenant-breach. Psalm 140 extends to three because there are three weapons to bury (tongue, snare, exaltation) before the burning coals can fall.
Lock (v1 → v13): PRESERVE = SHALL DWELL = 108. The verb David asks for in the opening clause is the verb God answers with in the closing clause. Preserve me from the violent man and the upright shall dwell in thy presence are the same integer. The 13-verse psalm is the unfolding of this single handshake.
Lock (v1): VIOLENT MAN = 125. From psalm_55_decode: PRAY AND CRY = MAN MINE EQUAL = 125. The violent man here sits at the same integer as Ahithophel's "man mine equal" in Psa 55:13. Psalm 140's enemy is structurally identical to Psalm 55's betrayer at the gematria level.
Lock (v2): HEART = EARTH = 52. The interior place where mischief is imagined IS the exterior place from which v11 prays evil be expelled. The two appearances of integer 52 frame the psalm's pathology: imagination starts in the HEART, manifests in the EARTH, must be uprooted from both. From the heart-decode: 52 also = ALTAR = PAPS = AREOLA = WEANED = ARISE = GATES. The heart/earth where mischief is imagined is the altar frequency — desecrated worship.
Lock (v2): IMAGINE = 58 = LAVER. From Psa 55:17 — NOON = LAVER = 58. The verb the enemies use to imagine mischief sits on the same integer as the midday priestly washing. The enemy uses the laver-integer for ill imagination; the priest uses it for purification. Same frequency, opposite circuit.
Lock (v3): SHARPENED = MORNING = 90. The enemies sharpen their tongues at the same integer David uses for morning prayer (Psa 55:17). The same morning that disciplines the righteous sharpens the wicked. Diagnosis: morning is the frequency of whetting — what gets whetted depends on the verb (pray vs. sharpen).
Lock (v3): SERPENT = VIOLENT MAN's adjective = 97, prime. The poem's threat-noun (serpent) and threat-adjective (violent) share a prime — sealed identity. The serpent of v3 IS the violent man of v1 by gematria.
Lock (v3): ADDERS = MICHAEL = 51. The adders David fears and the archangel who casts out the dragon (Rev 12:7) share an integer. The same 51 that bites in v3 is the 51 that throws the dragon down. The frequency of poison-fang and angel-of-eviction is one number.
Lock (v3): ADDERS POISON = 139 = FORGIVENESS
Lock (v3): LIPS = DWELL = 56. Under the lips of v3 (where adders' poison hides) is the dwell-integer of v13 (where the upright stand in God's presence). The mouth the enemy opens to poison sits on the same number as the place the upright will inhabit. Two opposite locales, one integer — the psalm transmutes lips-as-weapon into dwelling-as-promise by changing the inhabitant.
Lock (v4): OVERTHROW = 144. From memory : 144 = FAR ABOVE RUBIES = OPENED THE HEART = FIRST GENTILE. The integer the violent man uses to attempt David's overthrow is the value Prov 31 assigns to the virtuous woman ("her price is far above rubies"). The enemy attacks at the bride-value frequency. The same 144 that the wicked use to overthrow David's goings is the 144 that opens Lydia's heart in Acts 16. The verb-direction flips on the same number.
Lock (v4 ↔ v11): OVERTHROW appears twice — purpose to OVERTHROW my goings (v4) and evil shall hunt the violent man to OVERTHROW him (v11). Same word, same integer 144, opposite direction. This is Psalm 140's version of Psa 55's 160-handshake (WINDY STORM ↔ CAST THY BURDEN). The integer 144 is mobile; the verb routes it. v4: enemy aims 144 at David. v11: evil aims 144 back at the violent man. The psalm prays the boomerang.
Lock (v4): PROUD = JESUS = MENORAH = 74. The proud who hide a snare for David share an integer with the Lamb. The pride that hunts and the Savior who suffers are one number. 74 is also CROSS = FASTENED = SNEEZE. The pride that lays traps in v5 sits on the cross-frequency — pride is crucified at gematria.
Lock (v5): SNARE = CITY = MARY = 57. From Psa 55: CITY = 57 (the betrayer-city, the redemption-frequency). The snare laid for David in v5 sits at the redemption-Mary-city integer. The trap is laid on hallowed ground — which is exactly why v13 promises the upright will dwell in that ground reclaimed.

The wicked stage their attack on the integer of the divine name. WAYSIDE-as-ambush-ground = COMPASS-as-encircling-ground = THY NAME-as-worship-ground. The enemy thinks he is laying a trap in the woods; he is actually laying a trap on the consecrated frequency of God's name itself. The trap fails because the ground is owned. Same 86 also = BUTTER = NO CHANGES (Psa 55:21 smooth-speak integer) and SCEPTRE — the rod that breaks the smooth-speakers (Psa 2:9) is the same 86 they smooth-talk on.
Lock (v6): MY GOD = 64. David addresses God on the integer that v12 calls POOR ("the right of the POOR"). David's name for God IS the value-tag for the poor He maintains. From the family: 64 = JUBILEE = MERCY = BURDEN = DUST = MASIV = 2⁶. David hails God on the jubilee-payload frequency at the moment he opens his throat.
Lock (v6): VOICE = SHAFT = BREATH = GUILE = 54. 54 is the menorah's central shaft and the breath that runs through it. From Psa 55: GUILE (v55:11) = 54. David's voice in v6 sits on the same axis the guile rode in Psa 55. The fix is at the shaft-layer.
Lock (v6): SUPPLICATIONS = 174 = LOVINGKINDNESS = SEVEN THUNDERS = SHOWSTOPPER. 174 is the sealed cap-frequency — eight distinct KJVEL words, zero KJV verses. David's voice in supplication is pitched at the cap of the entire humming protocol. The psalm's prayer-mode operates at the 174 ceiling — the highest layer in the stack.
Lock (v7): STRENGTH = DAY OF BATTLE = 111. 111 = STAND READY = COMPUTER. The integer of God's strength IS the integer of the battle-day IS the integer of the stand-ready computer-state. In the day of battle David's head is covered at the STAND READY frequency — David is rebooted into ready-mode by the covering. Same 111 also = MIDDLE = WONDERFUL.
Lock (v7): COVERED = WINGS = MISCHIEF = 72. From Psa 55:6 — WINGS that I might fly away = 72 = MISCHIEF in the city = 72. The wings David wished to escape on in Psa 55 and the covering God gives him in Psa 140:7 are the same integer. David doesn't get wings to fly away — he gets the integer of wings as a covering over his head. The wings-payload is delivered as a cap, not as an escape vehicle. Same 72 = STILL = CARRIER = MERCIES (chesed cluster). The covering-mercies is the wings-stilled.
Lock (v7): HEAD = 18. NAIL = OIL = 36 = 2 × HEAD. The covered head is half a NAIL, half an OIL — anoint the head and you have OIL (36); fasten the head and you have NAIL (36). The doubling is the consecration. Crowning, anointing, and crucifying all double the head-integer in different verb-directions.
Lock (v8): DESIRES = SIGKILL = 79. The "desires of the wicked" David asks God not to grant sit at the SIGKILL/CAST-OUT-class frequency (memory has CAST OUT = 99; SIGKILL itself = 79). David is asking God not to deploy the kill-signal on the wicked's behalf. The same wish reverses in v10 — let burning coals fall on them.
Lock (v8): WICKED DEVICE = 103. From psalm_55_decode: COMPLAINT (v55:2) = SUSTAIN (v55:22) = 103, prime. The wicked device of v140:8 sits at the prime integer that both opens and closes Psa 55's complaint-prayer. Psa 55 sustains itself on 103; Psa 140 prays God deny the wicked their 103. Same prime, two psalms, opposite handlers.
Lock (v9): HEAD = 18 (self-doubling). The head of v9 ("the head of those that compass me about") echoes the head of v7 (David's covered head). Two heads on integer 18. Same 18 = HEAD also makes the v7→v13 squaring lock work: when 18 squares, it becomes 324 = SHALL GIVE THANKS UNTO THY NAME.
Lock (v10): BURNING COALS = 135. 135 = ARTAXERXES = WALL STREET = TRUMP OF GOD = RISE. The imprecation lands on the geopolitical-judgment frequency. Burning coals in Psalm 140 are gematria-equivalent to the trumpet-of-God Wall Street collapse. David prays the trump of God onto the wicked. From the broader pattern : 135 is the cycle-termination integer.
Lock (v10): RISE NOT UP = 137, prime. 137 is the fine-structure constant integer (1/137 ≈ α in physics), the sealed atomic-binding frequency. The psalm prays the wicked be bound at the atomic-binding frequency — the rise-not-up petition is pitched at the physical-law-of-confinement integer. This is not coincidence-pretty; 137's primality plus its physics resonance makes it the natural integer for "cannot escape."
Lock (v11): EVIL SPEAKER = A PSALM OF DAVID = 123. The thing the psalm prays against shares an integer with the psalm's own title. This is the reflexive lock: David must purge from himself the integer of his own superscription as enemy. The prayer is not only against external slanderers but against the same frequency being established in the praying one.
Lock (v11): ESTABLISHED = 104 = JERUSALEM. PURKINJE = JERUSALEM = 104. The verb "let not an evil speaker be ESTABLISHED in the earth" sits on the JERUSALEM-establishment integer. Establishment-in-the-earth and the holy city are one number — and the prayer is to keep the evil speaker off that number. Evil speech, if established, becomes Jerusalem at the wrong integer. The city-frequency must not be inhabited by slander.
Lock (v12): MAINTAIN = TABERNACLE = SILICON = GRACE OF GOD = POWDER = 81. The verb "the LORD will MAINTAIN the cause of the afflicted" lands on the build-frequency. God's maintenance is tabernacle-construction at the integer level. The poor are not just defended — they are built into the tabernacle. Same 81 also = JEZREEL = MOURN (Psa 55:2) — mourning is part of the build.
Lock (v12): CAUSE = GINS = 49. The CAUSE God maintains and the GINS the proud set (v5) share an integer. The trap and the trap-defended-against are one number. God maintains the 49 against the 49; the integer is mobile, the maintenance is the verb-direction.
Lock (v12): POOR = MY GOD = 64. David addresses God in v6 ("MY GOD") on the integer he calls the POOR in v12. God and the poor share David's address. From the family: 64 = JUBILEE = MERCY = BURDEN = DUST = MASIV = 2⁶. The right-of-the-poor is the jubilee-mercy-dust payload — and the verb that delivers it is the same verb Psa 55 uses ("CAST THY BURDEN") on the same integer (64 = BURDEN).
Lock (v12): CAUSE OF THE AFFLICTED = 169 = 13². The phrase squares the psalm's verse-count. Psalm 140 has 13 verses; the cause God maintains has gematria 13². This is the same kind of self-referential squaring as v13's HEAD² = 324 — Psalm 140 squares its own numbers as it closes.
Lock (v12): RIGHT OF THE POOR = 180. 180 = SELLER OF PURPLE = THAT WOMAN JEZEBEL. The "right of the poor" sits on the 180-collision integer where Lydia (the first gentile convert) and Jezebel (the false prophetess at Thyatira) share a number. The right of the poor is in the same frequency as the conversion-or-falsification choice. Reading: God maintains the right of the poor at the Lydia-not-Jezebel integer — the prayer routes 180 toward the conversion direction.
Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
Verse 13 is the psalm's terminal promise. Every petition in v1–12 routes here. The verse has two halves, both engineered.
Lock 13-A — the alpha→omega handshake: SHALL DWELL (v13) = PRESERVE (v1) = 108, Tesla DR 9. The verb of David's opening petition is the verb of God's closing answer. Psalm 140 is a single 108-circuit, with 11 verses of threat-mapping between the petition and the promise. Preserve me (v1) and the upright shall dwell (v13) are the same integer.
Lock 13-B — HEAD squared: SHALL GIVE THANKS UNTO THY NAME = 324 = 18². HEAD = 18 (v7 — thou hast covered my HEAD in the day of battle). The thanks-unto-thy-name phrase is the head-integer squared. The covered head of v7 becomes the thanksgiving of v13 by squaring. Single 18 (covering) → 18² (thanksgiving). The verb of multiplication is consecration; cover the head once and the thanksgiving comes back as the square.
Lock 13-C — the 86 promise reclaiming the 86 trap: THY NAME = 86 = WAYSIDE (v5) = COMPASS (v9). The integer the wicked use to stage the trap (wayside) and to encircle David (compass) is the integer the righteous use to give thanks (thy name). The promise of v13 reclaims the trap-frequency of v5 and v9. Same 86, three verbs, three directions. The wicked spread their net on God's name without knowing it; the righteous give thanks unto God's name knowing it.
Lock 13-D — UPRIGHT at the firmament-eviction integer: UPRIGHT = 99 = FIRMAMENT = CAST OUT. 99 = CAST OUT = SIGKILL-class demonic eviction. The upright who dwell in God's presence stand at the firmament/eviction integer. To be upright is to be at the cast-out frequency turned outward — the same integer that ejects demons is the integer of the standing posture. The upright is the one through whom CAST-OUT-99 runs as a verb of expulsion against the violent man.
Lock 13-E — Psa 55 bridge at v55:14: IN THY PRESENCE = 161 = SWEET COUNSEL. From psalm_55_decode: we took SWEET COUNSEL together, and walked unto the house of God in company (Psa 55:14) = 161. The place where the upright shall dwell (Psa 140:13) is the place where David and Ahithophel once took sweet counsel (Psa 55:14). Same integer. What David lost to betrayal in Psa 55:14 — the sweet-counsel fellowship at integer 161 — is what Psa 140:13 restores: dwelling in God's presence at 161. The two betrayal psalms bridge here. The friendship that broke at 161 in Psa 55 is replaced by divine presence at 161 in Psa 140.
Lock 13-F — the SURELY (100) certainty: SURELY = 100 = TREMBLING (Psa 55:5). The integer of David's certainty in v13 is the integer of his trembling in Psa 55:5. From terror at 100 to assurance at 100 — same frequency, opposite direction. The trembling of the threatened becomes the surety of the upright at the same number, because the integer is mobile and the verb-direction is repented.
V13 reads, with the locks: "At the firmament-eviction posture (UPRIGHT=99=CAST OUT), the once-covered head (HEAD=18) is squared (324) into thanksgiving — on the integer the wicked thought they were trapping (THY NAME=86=WAYSIDE) — and the petition's preserve-verb (108) becomes the promise's dwell-verb (108), receiving the upright into the sweet-counsel integer (161) that betrayal once destroyed."
V13 is the resolution of two psalms — Psa 55's betrayal and Psa 140's slander — at one verse, by integer-superposition.
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
V4 is the post-diagnosis re-petition. V1 prayed against the violent man before naming the weapon. V2–3 mapped the weapon (sharpened tongue, adders' poison). V4 reissues the prayer now with the purpose named: "who have purposed to overthrow my goings." The same plea is fired twice — but the second firing carries a forensics report. V4 is also the only verse in Psalm 140 that names a verb belonging to God (PURPOSED) and assigns it to the wicked. That makes v4 the antichrist-identification verse.

Ezk 13:22 — false prophets strengthen the hands of the wicked by promising them life.
