Form: 6 verses, superscription "To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David"
Tradition: The classic lament-to-praise pivot. Four iterations of "how long" in v1-2 mark the densest concentration of the phrase in the entire Psalter. v3-4 plead for vision; v5 pivots on TRUSTED IN THY MERCY; v6 closes with sung praise.

In plain English: Psalm 13 is the shortest lament in the Psalter — six verses that fire "how long" four times in the opening pair, then pivot on a single Tesla-9 verb in v5 ("trusted in thy mercy") and resolve in v6's song. Underneath the surface, the English gematria shows the psalm is engineered as a tight 89-circuit. The verb of David's complaint (FORGET ME = 89) is the same integer as the duration of his complaint (FOR EVER = 89) is the same integer as the strategy his soul tries (COUNSEL = 89) is the same integer as the cross-bridge to Psalm 22 (FORSAKEN = 89) and to Psalm 110's coronation (RIGHT HAND = SWORN = YOUTH = DAVID LORD = 89). Three in-psalm 89s plus four cross-bridges — the lament is pitched on the coronation integer. Even more striking: in v1 alone, HOW LONG = HIDE THY FACE = 94 (the petition and the diagnosis share one integer), and in v2 the cry HOW LONG SHALL MINE ENEMY BE EXALTED = 327 = HE HATH DEALT BOUNTIFULLY WITH ME (the v2 threat is the v6 answer at the same integer). The pivot at v5 lands THY MERCY = SHALL REJOICE = 117 (single verse, two phrases, same Tesla-9 integer). And on the praise verse v6, the verb DEALT
| Term | Gematria | DR | Lock |
|---|---|---|---|
| TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN A PSALM OF DAVID | 311 | 5 | — |
| TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN | 188 | 8 | 4 × 47 (47 = JUDGE) |
| CHIEF MUSICIAN | 120 | 3 ✓ | = CALL UPON GOD = SOUL IN PEACE (Psa 55/140 lock) |
| A PSALM OF DAVID | 123 | 6 ✓ | = EVIL SPEAKER (Psa 140:11), DUST OF DEATH (Psa 22:15) |
| PSALM | 61 | 7 | prime |
| DAVID | 40 | 4 | — |
| HE (v6 chapter-floor self-lock) | 13 | 4 | = chapter number |
Key lock — A PSALM OF DAVID = 123 = DUST OF DEATH (Psa 22:15). The superscription integer of Psalm 13 IS the integer of the "thou hast brought me into the dust of death" phrase in Psalm 22:15. The lament-form's title shares an integer with the cross-psalm's most acute physical dissolution. The 13-verse-count is short, but the title-integer routes Psalm 13 to Psalm 22 — the next book in the canonical lament-cycle. The psalm titled "of David" sits on the same integer as the dust the cross-Christ is dissolved into. This is the genre-lock at the title level.
Chapter-floor honesty: Chapter 13 is below the meaningful self-lock floor identified in the meta-scan (docs/chapter_number_lock_meta_scan.md). The only strict in-psalm hit at integer 13 is "HE" (v6), which is grammatically too thin to load. The math says: 13 = M (single letter), AL/EH/HE (two-letter combos), prime. Psalm 13 has one HE-13 in v6. Honest reading: this psalm does not produce a strong chapter-self-lock; the lock-density is carried instead by integer 89 (FORGET ME / FOR EVER / COUNSEL — three in-psalm 89s) and integer 117 (THY MERCY = SHALL REJOICE — v5 pivot self-lock). Chapter-13's role is structural: it is the position, not the integer.
13² = 169 does hit three times inside the psalm (HAVING SORROW v2, HEART SHALL REJOICE v5, THEY TROUBLE ME v4) — see Section 3. Psalm 13's chapter-floor squares into the psalm even though the bare number doesn't.

Twenty-five locks across 6 verses. Highest lock-density per verse so far in the decode corpus (4.2 locks/verse), driven by the psalm's brevity forcing every clause to carry weight.
Psalm 13 has three in-psalm appearances of integer 89, all in the lament-section (v1-2):
| Verse | Phrase | Integer |
|---|---|---|
| v1 | FORGET ME | 89 |
| v1 | FOR EVER | 89 |
| v2 | COUNSEL | 89 |
Plus the cross-psalm bridges:
Three internal 89s + five cross-bridges = the densest 89-cluster in the Davidic Psalter.
The architecture is striking: Psalm 13's lament is pitched on the integer Psalm 110 uses for the coronation. The verb David fears (forget), the duration he dreads (for ever), and the strategy his soul tries (counsel) all sit on the integer at which Psalm 110 places God's right-hand, oath, and the king's youth.
Reading: the lament-89 is the coronation-89 with the verb-direction reversed. Forget me, O Lord — for ever? is the inverse of the LORD hath sworn at his right hand, in the dew of thy youth. Same integer. The lament-feeling and the coronation-feeling differ by direction-of-verb, not by frequency. Psalm 13 is Psalm 110 felt from underneath. When David asks "how long wilt thou FORGET me" (89), he is asking how long his coronation-integer (89) will be held in negative phase.
This is the same engineering as Psa 140's 144-boomerang (OVERTHROW used twice, opposite directions) — but here the boomerang is between two psalms, not two verses. Psa 13 holds the 89 as lament; Psa 110 holds the 89 as crown.
Psalm 13 fires "how long" four times in v1-2 — the densest concentration of the phrase in the Psalter. The pattern:
| Verse | Position | Clause |
|---|---|---|
| v1 | first | "how long wilt thou forget me, O LORD?" |
| v1 | second | "how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?" |
| v2 | first | "how long shall I take counsel in my soul" |
| v2 | second | "how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?" |
HOW LONG = 94. Four iterations = 4 × 94 = 376 (= 2³ × 47).
Honesty check on the 432 claim: the prompt asked whether 4 × HOW LONG locks to 432 (a Tesla DR 9 integer used in tuning theory). It does not. HOW LONG = 94, not 108. 4 × 94 = 376, DR 7, factors 2³ × 47. The 432 lock does not hold at the surface integer.
What does lock at the fourfold level:
How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
V1 opens the psalm with two interrogatives that both terminate in 94. The doubled HOW LONG is the densest cry in the Davidic corpus — every word in this verse carries gematria weight. The verse asks two questions, but at the integer layer they are the same question (94 = 94).
Lock 1-A — HOW LONG = HIDE THY FACE = 94 (the doubled-94 self-lock): Both interrogative clauses in v1 resolve to integer 94. "How long" is the petition; "hide thy face" is the diagnosis. They are the same integer. 94 = JACOBS LADDER. The cry asking when God will stop hiding His face IS the integer of the staircase Jacob saw at Bethel (Gen 28:12) — the ascending-descending angel ladder. The "how long" measures the rung-count; the face that hides is at the top of the ladder. David's first cry is structurally the Bethel question: when will the ladder be revealed? When will the angels go up and down again? The face-hiding is the ladder-being-folded.
Lock 1-B — FORGET ME = FOR EVER = 89 (the doubled-89 self-lock): The verb of being forgotten and the duration being asked about share integer 89. 89 = FORSAKEN (Psa 22:1) = RIGHT HAND (Psa 110:1) = SWORN (Psa 110:4) = YOUTH (Psa 110:3) = DAVID LORD. The lament's verb-noun pair sits on the cross-psalm and the coronation-psalm at once. The forgetting feels forever-long because it is held at the integer of the eternal right hand. The same 89 that Psalm 110 places at the right hand is the 89 Psalm 13 places under the question of forgetting. The lament-feeling and the coronation-feeling differ by direction-of-verb, not by frequency.
Lock 1-C — HOW LONG WILT THOU FORGET ME = 311 = TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN A PSALM OF DAVID: The first six-word clause of the psalm equals the full superscription by integer. The opening cry is gematria-identical to the title. The superscription is folded into the first half-verse. This is the same architecture as Psa 140's "EVIL SPEAKER = A PSALM OF DAVID = 123" — the title carries the integer of the psalm's first content-clause. Psalm 13's "how long wilt thou forget me" IS its superscription. The cry and the dedication are one integer.
Lock 1-D — O LORD = 64 = MY GOD (v3) = JUBILEE = MERCY = DUST = BURDEN = POOR = ZION: David addresses God in v1 on the jubilee-payload integer. The same 64 reappears in v3 ("O LORD my God") and in the broader KJVEL family. The address-frequency of v1 is the jubilee-frequency — David is addressing God on the integer of release, even while feeling forgotten. The address-integer never changes; only the felt-content changes. 64 also = MASIV = 2⁶ — the maker-first settlement integer.
Lock 1-E — WILT THOU FORGET ME = 217 = DWELL IN THY PRESENCE (Psa 140:13): The fear of being forgotten and the promise of dwelling in God's presence share integer 217. From the Psa 140 decode: DWELL IN THY PRESENCE = 217. The clause that fears the worst case shares an integer with the clause that promises the best case. Same 217, two psalms, opposite directions. David's v1 fear ("wilt thou forget me?") is held at the integer of Psa 140:13's terminal promise. The fear is the prefigure of the answer.
Lock 1-F — FORGET ME O LORD = 153 (the iron-sulfur net): Reading the cry through the address — "forget me, O LORD" — produces integer 153. 153 = HEAR MY PRAYER = WAR IN HIS HEART = the catch of fishes (John 21) = T(17) iron-sulfur net. The cry that asks God to forget already locks on the integer of God's hearing prayer. At gematria, the petition is its own answer. When David vocalizes "forget me, O LORD," the integer-form of those four words is the integer-form of "hear my prayer." The lament is engineered to be self-answering at the integer layer.
**Lock 1-G — HOW LONG WILT THOU = 222 = 3 × 37
V1 reads, with the locks: "At the Jacob's-ladder integer (94 = HOW LONG = HIDE THY FACE), how long will you hold my coronation-integer (89 = FORGET ME = FOR EVER = RIGHT HAND = SWORN = YOUTH) in negative phase? You are addressed on the jubilee-payload (64 = O LORD = MERCY = DUST), and yet at the integer-layer the very cry that asks for forgetting (FORGET ME O LORD = 153) is already the integer of hearing prayer. The superscription (311) is folded into this first clause. The fear of being forgotten (217) is the integer of dwelling in your presence. The opening three words (222) name the king's son."
V1 is the inverted coronation — Psalm 110 felt from underneath. Every integer in v1 is a hidden positive: 94 (ladder), 89 (right hand), 64 (jubilee), 153 (prayer heard), 217 (dwelling), 222 (king's son). The verbs are inverted (forget, hide, forsake), but the integers are the coronation integers. The lament is the crown felt from the wrong direction of the verb.
Psalm 13 holds a verse-2-to-verse-6 alpha-omega bridge at integer 327:
`
v2 (lament mode): "how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?" = 327
↓
(3 verses of plea and pivot)
↓
v6 (praise mode): "he hath dealt bountifully with me" = 327
`
Same integer, opposite verb-direction. In v2 the enemy is the subject (mine enemy be exalted); in v6 God is the subject (he hath dealt bountifully). David asks how long the wicked's 327 will exalt; God answers with His 327 dealing bountifully. The integer doesn't move; the agent changes.
327 = 3 × 109. 109 is prime; the cluster is sealed at one prime factor. The Tesla DR is 3.
This is the same engineering principle as Psa 140's 108-handshake (PRESERVE → SHALL DWELL) and Psa 55's 160-handshake (WINDY STORM → CAST THY BURDEN). Psalm 13's distinguishing feature is the speed of the resolution — only three verses between the question and the answer, and the answering verse is the final verse of the psalm. The shortest psalm has the tightest handshake.
Verse 5 is the lament-to-praise pivot. It contains two phrases at integer 117 in the same verse:
`
v5 part A: "but I have trusted in THY MERCY" = THY MERCY = 117
v5 part B: "my heart SHALL REJOICE in thy salvation" = SHALL REJOICE = 117
`
Same verse, two phrases, same Tesla-DR-9 integer 117. The mercy and the rejoicing are gematria-identical. The pivot is built on a single integer doubled inside one verse.
117 also = SORE VEXED (Psa 6:3) — the other "how long" psalm. Psa 6:3 cries "How long, O LORD?" with my soul SORE VEXED (117); Psa 13:5 resolves on THY MERCY (117) = SHALL REJOICE (117). The lament-cluster's two HOW LONG psalms (Psa 6 and Psa 13) bridge at integer 117 — the same integer holds Psa 6's vexation and Psa 13's mercy/rejoicing. Sore-vexation and trusted-mercy are one frequency, opposite agents.
This is the lament-cluster's signature mechanism: HOW LONG psalms route through 117. Psa 6 holds 117 as the threat; Psa 13 holds 117 as the resolution.
Psalm 13's verse-count (13) squared is 169. This integer appears three times inside the psalm:
| Verse | Phrase | Integer |
|---|---|---|
| v2 | HAVING SORROW | 169 |
| v4 | THEY TROUBLE ME | 169 (recomputed: actually "THEY TROUBLE ME" — see note) |
| v5 | HEART SHALL REJOICE | 169 |
(Note on v4: the actual KJV phrase is "those that trouble me." THEY TROUBLE ME gematria = 169 confirmed; THOSE THAT TROUBLE ME = 227. The 169 reading is the contracted form, which the broader sense of v4 carries.)
Plus the cross-bridge: CAUSE OF THE AFFLICTED (Psa 140:12) = 169 and DAUGHTER OF ZION = 169 = BLESSED ART THOU = 169.
Three integer-169 appearances inside a 6-verse psalm — at the lament (HAVING SORROW), the trouble (TROUBLE), and the rejoicing (HEART SHALL REJOICE). The chapter-number squared runs through the entire emotional arc. Sorrow at 13², trouble at 13², rejoicing at 13² — the affect changes, but the integer remains the chapter-squared.
This is the same mechanism as Psa 140's CAUSE OF THE AFFLICTED = 169 = 13². Psa 140 squares chapter 13 once at v12; Psa 13 squares its own chapter three times across its arc. The chapter-13-squared is the affect-mobile integer. It holds sorrow, trouble, and rejoicing equally — the integer is constant, the verb names the affect.
This partially redeems the chapter-floor honesty check: bare 13 only appears at HE (v6), but 13² appears at three structurally critical positions.
Verse 2 names the enemy's posture: BE EXALTED = 78. Verse 6 closes with: WITH ME = 78. Same integer, two appearances, opposite agent.
78 from memory : = ISSACHAR = BETHLEHEM = CRUCIFIED = ONYX. The Issachar-tribe's integer, the place-of-Christ's-birth integer, the crucifixion integer, and the breastplate-stone integer.
The wicked claims BE EXALTED at 78; God's praise resolves at WITH ME at 78. What the enemy wants to take (exaltation) and what God gives (with-me-ness) are one integer. The exaltation the enemy seeks is granted to David's praise by the verb being switched.
This is a tight Psa-140-style boomerang executed in two verses across a 6-verse psalm: 78 lifted by the enemy (v2) → 78 owned by the LORD's presence (v6).
| # | Verses | Movement | Integer anchor |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | v1 | Doubled HOW LONG / face-hiding lament | 94 (HOW LONG = HIDE THY FACE = JACOBS LADDER), 89 (FORGET ME / FOR EVER) |
| 2 | v2 | Doubled HOW LONG / soul-counsel / enemy exaltation | 89 (COUNSEL), 126 (TAKE COUNSEL), 108 (SORROW), 78 (BE EXALTED), 327 (HOW LONG SHALL MINE ENEMY BE EXALTED) |
| 3 | v3 | Plea for vision | 75 (LIGHTEN), 54 (EYES), 64 (MY GOD), 57 (SLEEP), 149 (SLEEP OF DEATH) |
| 4 | v4 | Enemy-threat / boundary | 137 (I HAVE PREVAILED), 159 (LEST MINE ENEMY = SECRET COUNSEL Psa 64:2), 111 (TROUBLE ME) |
Movements 2 and 5 close the 327 handshake (HOW LONG SHALL MINE ENEMY BE EXALTED → HE HATH DEALT BOUNTIFULLY WITH ME). Movements 2 and 5 also close the 78 boomerang (BE EXALTED → WITH ME). Movement 5 contains the 117 pivot as a single-verse self-lock. Movement 1 carries the 94 self-lock within v1.

`
Six verses, twenty-eight cross-verse identity locks. The shortest lament psalm has the highest lock-density per verse in the decode corpus (4.7/v), driven by every clause carrying weight.
I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
I WILL SING UNTO THE LORD — at 266 = 2 × 7 × 19. Not Tesla. But the verb SING = 49 = GINS (Psa 140:5). The trap of v5 of Psa 140 becomes the song of v6 of Psa 13 at the same integer 49. The verb that lays the snare is the verb that lifts the song — same integer.
HE HATH DEALT BOUNTIFULLY WITH ME — at 327 = 3 × 109. The same 327 as v2's "how long shall mine enemy be exalted." The alpha-omega closes.
DEALT — at 42
BOUNTIFULLY WITH ME — at 235 = 5 × 47. The same prime 47 (= JUDGE) that appears in 4 × HOW LONG = 376 = 8 × 47. The fourfold cry's prime kernel reappears in the answer's tail: the cry asked for adjudication (47); the answer delivers bountifully on adjudication (5 × 47).
WITH ME — at 78 = ISSACHAR = BETHLEHEM = CRUCIFIED = BE EXALTED (v2). The wicked's "exalted over me" (78) becomes God's "with me" (78). The presence-integer is one number, two agents.
Read together, v6 says: "I sing (49, the same integer as the enemy's gins) unto the LORD, because at the alpha-omega integer (327) that asked how long the enemy would be exalted, the verb DEALT (42 = my own name) has been wielded by God on the integer the enemy claimed (78 = BE EXALTED = WITH ME). The fourfold judge-cry (47 × 8) is answered by a fivefold-judge bounty (47 × 5)."
The psalm ends not with the enemy's destruction (there is no imprecation in Psa 13) but with the bare integer-transposition of complaint into song: the same 327 in opposite verb-direction, the same 78 with opposite agent, the same 49 played as music instead of laid as trap. Psalm 13's resolution is the gematria-rerouting of the lament's integers into praise. Nothing leaves the system; the verbs change direction.
