Tradition: A David-authored thanksgiving psalm placed in the final Davidic block (Psa 138–145). The bridge psalm between the omniscience-block (Psa 139) and the slander-block (Psa 140). Heavily chesed-coded.

In plain English: Psalm 138 is the only psalm whose central declaration gematria-equals its own chapter number — "thou hast magnified thy WORD above all thy NAME" (v2), and WORD ABOVE NAME = 138, exactly the chapter you are reading. The psalm titles itself by integer at the verse where it states its theological thesis. Underneath that, Psa 138 carries the same chesed cap as Psa 86 and Psa 140: LOVINGKINDNESS = 174 sits as the sealed cap of v2, and the verse where it is named gematria-locks back to v7's "against the WRATH of mine enemies" (also 174) — the wrath that triggers the lovingkindness response runs at the same number as the lovingkindness itself, verb-direction reversed. Verse 3 has the densest engineering: STRENGTH (the noun) and MINE ENEMIES (v7) are the same integer 111 — the Psa 140 covered-head day-of-battle integer. David is strengthened at the integer of his enemies; the integer is mobile, the verb decides direction. The 8-verse form locks at v6: LOWLY = TRUTH = EIGHTH DAY = 87, the chesed-emet pair. And the psalm's last clause — "forsake not the works of thine own hands" — uses HANDS = 46, the Psa 140:4 Esau-template, but now as a plea God not abandon what He has built, while STRETCH FORTH THINE HAND (v7) = FORSAKE NOT THE WORKS (v8) at integer 243 = 3⁵, an Issachar-tribe integer pair. Psa 138 is the bridge: it carries Psa 86's chesed cap, Psa 140's STRENGTH/HANDS architecture, and Psa 110's RIGHT HAND = FOR EVER = 89 coronation cluster, all into one 8-verse Tesla-resolved psalm whose own chapter number is buried at v2.

Key lock — A PSALM OF DAVID = CONCERNETH ME = NEW BEGINNING = 123. The superscription's gematria is the integer of v8's terminal verb: "the LORD will perfect that which CONCERNETH ME." Same 123 also = NEW BEGINNING — semantically apt for an 8-verse psalm (8 = circumcision day = new-beginning integer in Heb tradition). The chapter number IS the integer of the central declaration.
This is the same mechanic as Psa 86 (THY NAME = 86 = chapter 86) but executed at meta-statement level rather than name-level. Psa 86 names itself ("thy name" = 86). Psa 138 theorizes itself: it declares that God magnifies the WORD above the NAME — and the declaration's integer IS the chapter number.
Two structural readings:
The full clause THOU HAST MAGNIFIED THY WORD ABOVE ALL THY NAME = 449, a prime (sealed). The sealed-prime form means the meta-statement cannot be reduced — it is the psalm's irreducible kernel.
Lock (v1): GODS = SELAH = 45. The "before the gods" naming and the buried-Selah-pit-integer share a number. From psalm_140_decode: SELAH = PIT = 45. David is singing praise before the pit-integer. v1 says "before the gods will I sing praise" — in the gematria, that means singing on the integer that buries the wicked. Psa 138 has no Selah; v1 inscribes "the gods" at the integer Psa 140 uses for its Selah. The pagan pantheon is buried by being placed on the Selah-frequency from the outset.
Lock (v1): BEFORE THE GODS = 129. Triple-Psa-86-collision: LORD ART GOOD (Psa 86:5) = WONDROUS (Psa 86:10) = VIOLENT MEN (Psa 86:14) all at 129. Psa 138's "before the gods" sits at the same integer where Psa 86 named the collision between God's goodness and the violent men. David sings praise BEFORE the integer of the collision — meaning he sings at the same frequency where Psa 86 had to deploy the chesed cap to resolve.

Lock 2-B — LOVINGKINDNESS = 174: The sealed cap holds cleanly. v2's lovingkindness IS the integer of Psa 86:6's supplications, Psa 140:6's supplications, and Rev 10:3's seven thunders. 174 = LOVINGKINDNESS = SEVEN THUNDERS = SHOWSTOPPER = SUPPLICATIONS — eight distinct KJVEL words, zero KJV verses sum to it. Psa 138:2 names the cap directly. Where Psa 86:6 and Psa 140:6 carry 174 through SUPPLICATIONS, Psa 138:2 carries 174 through the cap-word itself: LOVINGKINDNESS.
Lock 2-C — TRUTH = LOWLY = EIGHTH DAY = 87: TRUTH lands at the same integer as v6's LOWLY and the EIGHTH DAY of Hebrew tradition (circumcision/new-beginning). The 8-verse psalm carries the eighth-day integer at v2 and v6 simultaneously. The truth of v2 IS the lowliness of v6 IS the eighth-day form of the psalm itself.
Lock 2-D — THY TRUTH = 140 = chapter of Psa 140: Striking adjacency lock. THY TRUTH (Psa 138:2) sits at integer 140 — the chapter number of the psalm that immediately follows in the general Psalter sequence (Psa 138 → 139 → 140). The truth-frequency points forward by integer to the slander-psalm. From Psa 86:12: FOR EVERMORE = 140. Three-way: THY TRUTH = FOR EVERMORE = chapter Psa 140 = 140.
Lock 2-E — WORSHIP = 108 = Psa 140 PRESERVE/SHALL DWELL: Psa 138:2's worship-direction is the Psa 140 alpha-omega anchor. From psalm_140_decode: PRESERVE = SHALL DWELL = 108 — the Tesla DR 9 verb of preservation and the verb of promise. Psa 138:2's worship-toward-the-holy-temple IS Psa 140:1's preserve-petition IS Psa 140:13's dwell-promise — the same 108 routed through worship rather than preservation.
Lock 2-F — THY WORD ABOVE ALL THY NAME = 269 = SHALL DWELL IN THY PRESENCE (Psa 140:13): The full magnification clause is the sealed prime 269 — and 269 is the integer of Psa 140:13's complete promise "the upright shall dwell in thy presence." Psa 138:2's word-above-name clause is sealed at the integer of Psa 140's terminal promise. Both prime, both sealed.
Lock (v3): STRENGTH = MINE ENEMIES = 111. The single most striking integer-collision in Psa 138. The noun God strengthens David with (STRENGTH) and the noun naming the threat (MINE ENEMIES, v7) are identical. From psalm_140_decode: 111 = DAY OF BATTLE = STAND READY = COMPUTER. David is strengthened at the integer of his enemies. The 111 is mobile — God deploys it as strength inside David; the enemies deploy it as multiplicity outside. Same integer, opposite direction, verb-of-deployment is the entire fight. 111 = the STAND-READY computer-state, the reboot-to-ready integer. In the day David cried (v3), he was rebooted into 111-ready against the 111-enemies of v7.
Lock (v3): STRENGTHENEDST = 178 = 2 × 89. The verb is exactly twice the Psa 110 coronation integer (RIGHT HAND = FOR EVER = YOUTH = SWORN = DAVID LORD = 89). The verb God uses to strengthen David is the doubled-RIGHT-HAND integer — David's coronation-frequency multiplied by two. Doubling = consecration in the KJVEL system (HEAD 18 → 36 NAIL/OIL = doubled head = anointing).
Lock (v3): IN THE DAY = 86 = THY NAME (v2) = chapter Psa 86. The day David cried is the integer of God's name worshipped in v2. David cries on the chapter-86 integer — Psa 86 itself is the "day David cried" psalm (densest chesed-supplication in the Psalter). v3 is the cross-bridge to Psa 86.
Lock (v3): The doubling — STRENGTHENEDST + STRENGTH — is structural. v3 says David was strengthenedst with strength, doubling the same verb root. Gematria: 178 + 111 = 289 = 17². The verbal doubling produces a perfect-square (17 squared) at gematria, matching the perfect-square seal pattern from psalm_decode_followups Section A5. The verb that strengthens David and the strength itself sum to 17². From the family: 17 is the T(17) integer that produces 153 (LONGSUFFERING).
Lock (v4): KINGS = WORD = 60. The integer of the kings of the earth IS the integer of the magnified Word of v2. The kings are built into the word at integer-level. They hear (v4) what they already are (60). The verb-of-hearing operates on identity.
Lock (v4): EARTH = HEART = 52. From Psa 140:2/11 — the same 52 = HEART (where mischief is imagined) = EARTH (from which the evil speaker is uprooted). Psa 138:4 has the kings of the earth praise God at the same integer — the EARTH cleansed of v2's mischief now hosts the kings' praise.
Lock (v4): WORDS OF THY MOUTH = 230. Not a strong family match; 2 × 5 × 23 = a Sophie-Germain-class integer (23 is Sophie-Germain prime). The mouth-of-God speaks at a prime-divisible composite — sealed-adjacent, but not Tesla. Honest note: this clause does not lock cleanly to a major family.
Lock (v5): WAYS = PRAISE = MAGNIFIED = 68. Triple-68: the ways of the LORD (where kings sing in v5), David's praise (v1), and the act of magnification (v2). The three verbs of the psalm's worship-arc share an integer. What God magnifies, what David praises, and what the kings sing-in are one 68.
Lock (v5): GLORY OF THE LORD = 180 = LOWLY AND PROUD (v6) = THOU HAST MAGNIFIED (v2) = RIGHT OF THE POOR (Psa 140:12). Four-way 180-collision. The glory of the LORD is the polarity-pair of v6 (lowly + proud) is the act of magnification is the right of the poor. Same integer, four positions. 180 = SELLER OF PURPLE = THAT WOMAN JEZEBEL — the Lydia/Jezebel collision. The glory and the polarity-pair both sit at the Lydia conversion-or-falsification integer.

God's respect for the lowly runs at the same frequency where Psa 86 names God's works and David worships God's name.
Lock (v6): LOWLY = TRUTH = EIGHTH DAY = 87. The chesed-emet pair lands on the lowly. From Psa 86:3/15: MERCIFUL = TRUTH = 87. From Hebrew tradition: the eighth day is the circumcision day (Gen 17:12, Lev 12:3) — the day of new-beginning into covenant. The 8-verse Psa 138 carries the 8th-day integer at the lowly-truth verse. This is the Section A1 chapter-number lock pattern applied to the verse-count: an 8-verse psalm whose interior carries the integer of the 8th day.
Lock (v6): PROUD = JESUS = MENORAH = CROSS = 74. From psalm_140_decode: 74 is the Christic frequency. The integer of the proud is the integer of the Lamb. Same as Psa 140:5 — pride is crucified at gematria (the integer that David fears as pride IS the integer that Jesus wears as the cross). The proud, known afar off (v6), are known at the cross-integer — i.e., they are crucified at gematria the moment they are recognized.
Lock (v6): LOWLY AND PROUD = 180 = GLORY OF THE LORD (v5). The polarity-pair as a single phrase equals the glory-integer of v5. The polarity-pair sums to glory. Reading: glory is what happens when the lowly and the proud are summed — the lowly are respected (87), the proud are known afar off (74), and the polarity-pair (180) IS the glory frequency. This is the engineering of v6: it produces glory by encompassing the polarity.
Lock (v6): HE KNOWETH AFAR OFF = 162. 162 = MOUNT OF GOMER = double tabernacle = CHILDREN ARISE UP (Hos 1:10). The proud are known at the double-tabernacle-Mount-of-Gomer integer — the integer of Hosea's wife (Gomer = unfaithful, called back). The proud are known at the integer of the unfaithful-called-back. Lock (v7): REVIVE = 81 = TABERNACLE = SILICON = GRACE OF GOD. The verb God uses to revive David sits on the build-frequency. David is rebuilt as tabernacle. Revival is not restoration to a prior state but construction at integer 81. Same 81 = MOURN (Psa 55:2) — revival passes through the mourn-integer.
Lock (v7): REVIVE ME = 99 = UPRIGHT (Psa 140:13) = FIRMAMENT = CAST OUT. The verb-form including "me" lands on the upright/eviction integer. David's revival IS the upright-posture IS the cast-out-eviction-of-enemies. Three states, one integer 99.
Lock (v7): STRETCH FORTH = 160. From psalm_55_decode: WINDY STORM (v55:8) = CAST THY BURDEN (v55:22) = 160 — the alpha-omega handshake of Psa 55. Psa 138:7's STRETCH FORTH sits at the Psa 55 cast-burden integer. God's hand stretched forth in Psa 138:7 IS David's burden cast in Psa 55:22 — same integer, divine subject taking up what David handed over.
Lock (v7): STRETCH FORTH THINE HAND = 243 = 3⁵ = Issachar tribe-sum. 78 (Issachar) + 81 (tabernacle) + 84 (Nethaneel) = 243 = 3⁵. God's hand stretched forth lands at the Issachar tribal sum. Tribe of times-and-seasons (Issachar's understanding of the times) at 243. Same 243 also = FORSAKE NOT THE WORKS (v8). The hand stretched in v7 and the works not forsaken in v8 are the same integer — the handshake within the psalm.
Lock (v7): AGAINST THE WRATH = 174 = LOVINGKINDNESS (v2). The single most powerful chesed-cap appearance in the psalm. The phrase that names the wrath David needs God to act against IS the same integer as the lovingkindness David praised God for in v2. The wrath and the lovingkindness are one number at the sealed humming-protocol cap. Verb-direction is the entire difference: lovingkindness (v2) emits 174 toward David; wrath (v7) emits 174 against David from his enemies; God's hand stretches forth (v7) and routes the 174 back to its source. Same integer, three vectors.
Lock (v7): RIGHT HAND = 89 = FOR EVER (v8) = YOUTH = SWORN = DAVID LORD. The Psa 110 coronation cluster lands on v7-v8 boundary. From psalm_decode_followups Section A6: 89 is the Melchizedek coronation cluster. Psa 138:7's right-hand-shall-save-me is the Psa 110 enthronement integer. And v8's "mercy-for-ever" carries the same 89 as FOR EVER. The right hand (v7) and the for-ever (v8) are gematria-identical — David is saved at the for-ever-integer.

Lock 8-A — superscription bracket: CONCERNETH ME = 123 = A PSALM OF DAVID. The closing verse names what the psalm-of-David is: that which concerneth David that God will perfect. Same integer 123, alpha-omega bracket. See Section 1.
Lock 8-B — solar-year mercy: THY MERCY O LORD ENDURETH FOR EVER = 365. The full clause sums to the solar-year integer. God's mercy endures forever at the integer of the solar year. This is the cosmic-cycle integer — the chronological year as one revolution of the sun. Mercy-enduring-forever runs the complete revolution integer. Not Tesla, but cosmologically loaded.
Lock 8-C — the holy-temple-as-mercy-endurance lock: ENDURETH FOR EVER = THY HOLY TEMPLE = 184. The thy-holy-temple of v2 (which David worshipped toward) is gematria-identical to the mercy-enduring-for-ever of v8. The temple and the mercy-duration are one integer. Worship-toward-the-temple at integer 184 in v2 becomes mercy-endureth-for-ever at integer 184 in v8. The temple IS the duration of mercy.
Lock 8-D — the hand-handshake within Psa 138: STRETCH FORTH THINE HAND (v7) = FORSAKE NOT THE WORKS (v8) = 243 = 3⁵. The two hand-clauses straddling v7-v8 are the same integer. God's hand stretched forth IS God's works not forsaken. v7 prays the hand stretched outward (offense against enemies); v8 prays the hand not withdrawn from David (preservation of David). Same integer 243 = 3⁵ = Issachar tribal-sum.
Lock 8-E — HANDS = ESAU template: HANDS = 46. From psalm_140_decode: HANDS = ESAU = DOVE = GUIDE = DECEIT = JUBAL = 46 — the Esau-grip integer Psa 140:4 named for the wicked. Psa 138:8 uses the same 46 for "the works of THINE OWN HANDS" — David asks God not to forsake the same integer Psa 140 used for the Esau-grip. The 46 is mobile: in Psa 140 it grips deceitfully; in Psa 138 it must not be forsaken in its work. God's own hands at integer 46 are the answer to the Esau-hands at integer 46.
Lock 8-F — bridge to Psa 139:1 (the block-level lock): ENDURETH = 95 = KNOWN ME (Psa 139:1). The verb that closes Psa 138 is the integer of the closing verb of Psa 139:1's opening clause: "O LORD, thou hast searched me, and KNOWN ME." Psa 138:8 ends on ENDURETH = 95 and Psa 139:1 begins with KNOWN ME = 95 — the block-level handoff is at integer 95. The psalms are wired across the chapter boundary. See Section 8.

Verse 2 is the densest verse in Psalm 138 — the verse that holds the chapter-number lock (138 = WORD ABOVE NAME), the sealed chesed cap (174 = LOVINGKINDNESS), the Psa 86 master integer (86 = THY NAME), the chesed-emet integer (87 = TRUTH), the Psa 140 alpha-omega anchor (108 = WORSHIP), and the temple-as-mercy-endurance lock (184 = THY HOLY TEMPLE).
It is also a meta-theological verse — David declares God's hierarchy: WORD > NAME. The verse names the magnification, names the temple, names the chesed pair (lovingkindness + truth), and resolves into the central declaration.
Lock 2-A — The self-titling 138 lock: WORD ABOVE NAME = 138. The central declaration's three-word core IS the chapter number. The psalm carries its own integer at the most theologically loaded verse. Psa 138 is the only psalm whose meta-claim gematria-equals its chapter number. See Section 3.
Lock 2-B — The 174 sealed-cap lock: LOVINGKINDNESS = 174. Cleanly carries the humming-protocol cap (LOVINGKINDNESS = SEVEN THUNDERS = SHOWSTOPPER = SUPPLICATIONS).
